The full verdict from the FIA's WMSC At an extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council held in Paris on 21 September 2009, the ING Renault F1 team ("Renault F1") admitted that the team had conspired with its driver Nelson Piquet Jr. to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, in breach of the International Sporting Code and F1 Sporting Regulations. Renault F1 stated at the meeting that it had conducted a detailed internal investigation, which found that: (i) Flavio Briatore, Pat Symonds and Nelson Piquet Jr. had conspired to cause the crash; and (ii) no other team member was involved in the conspiracy. The FIA has conducted its own detailed investigation and its findings correspond with those of Renault F1. At the meeting of the World Motor Sport Council, Renault F1 made the following points in mitigation: - it had accepted, at the earliest practicable opportunity, that it committed the offences with which it was charged and cooperated fully with the FIA's investigation; - it had confirmed that Mr. Briatore and Mr. Symonds were involved in the conspiracy and ensured that they left the team; - it apologised unreservedly to the FIA and to the sport for the harm caused by its actions; - it committed to paying the costs incurred by the FIA in its investigation; and - Renault (the parent company, as opposed to Renault F1) committed to making a significant contribution to FIA safety-related projects. Nelson Piquet Jr. also apologised unreservedly to the World Motor Sport Council for his part in the conspiracy. The following decision was taken: The World Motor Sport Council finds that Renault F1 team members Flavio Briatore, Pat Symonds and Nelson Piquet Jr. conspired to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. The World Motor Sport Council therefore finds Renault F1, which, under article 123 of the International Sporting Code, is responsible for the actions of its employees, in breach of Articles 151(c) and point 2(c) of Chapter IV of Appendix L of the Code, and Articles 3.2, 30.3 and/or 39.1 of the Formula One Sporting Regulations. The World Motor Sport Council considers Renault F1's breaches relating to the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix to be of unparalleled severity. Renault F1's breaches not only compromised the integrity of the sport but also endangered the lives of spectators, officials, other competitors and Nelson Piquet Jr. himself. The World Motor Sport Council considers that offences of this severity merit permanent disqualification from the FIA Formula One World Championship. However, having regard to the points in mitigation mentioned above and in particular the steps taken by Renault F1 to identify and address the failings within its team and condemn the actions of the individuals involved, the WMSC has decided to suspend Renault F1's disqualification until the end of the 2011 season. The World Motor Sport Council will only activate this disqualification if Renault F1 is found guilty of a comparable breach during that time. In addition the World Motor Sport Council notes Renault F1's apology and agrees that the team should pay the costs of the investigation. It also accepts the offer of a significant contribution to the FIA's safety work. As regards Mr. Briatore, the World Motor Sport Council declares that, for an unlimited period, the FIA does not intend to sanction any International Event, Championship, Cup, Trophy, Challenge or Series involving Mr. Briatore in any capacity whatsoever, or grant any license to any Team or other entity engaging Mr. Briatore in any capacity whatsoever. It also hereby instructs all officials present at FIA-sanctioned events not to permit Mr. Briatore access to any areas under the FIA's jurisdiction. Furthermore, it does not intend to renew any Superlicence granted to any driver who is associated (through a management contract or otherwise) with Mr. Briatore, or any entity or individual associated with Mr. Briatore. In determining that such instructions should be applicable for an unlimited period, the World Motor Sport Council has had regard not only to the severity of the breach in which Mr. Briatore was complicit but also to his actions in continuing to deny his participation in the breach despite all the evidence. As regards Mr. Symonds, the World Motor Sport Council declares that, for a period of five years, the FIA does not intend to sanction any International Event, Championship, Cup, Trophy, Challenge or Series involving Mr. Symonds in any capacity whatsoever, or grant any license to any Team or other entity engaging Mr. Symonds in any capacity whatsoever. It hereby instructs, for a period of five years, all officials present at FIA-sanctioned events not to permit Mr. Symonds access to any areas under the FIA's jurisdiction. In determining that such instructions should be effective for a period of five years the World Motor Sport Council has had regard: (i) to Mr. Symonds' acceptance that he took part in the conspiracy; and (ii) to his communication to the meeting of the World Motor Sport Council that it was to his "eternal regret and shame" that he participated in the conspiracy. As regards Mr. Piquet Jr., the World Motor Sport Council confirms the immunity from individual sanctions under the International Sporting Code in relation to this incident, which the FIA had granted to him in exchange for volunteering his evidence. As regards Fernando Alonso, the World Motor Sport Council thanks him for cooperating with the FIA's enquiries and for attending the meeting, and concludes that Mr. Alonso was not in any way involved in Renault F1's breach of the regulations. The World Motor Sport Council would like to thank the Stewards and legal investigation team (in particular Dorothy Cory-Wright of Sidley Austin LLP who conducted the interviews at the Belgian Grand Prix). però, una bella batosta per renault e per briatore... ma la renault verrà sospesa già dal prossimo gp oppure terminerà la stagione e verrà sospesa per 2 stagioni intere? Ora alonso sarà vicinissimo ad approdare in ferrari, essendo appiedato e visto che era vicino già prima, ora però manca il l'interlocutore, ovvero briatore, quindi è facile che non se ne faccia niente
Qualunque sia il destino di Alonso, è già deciso da tempo. Piuttosto fa riflettere il fatto che sia stato chiamato a deporre anche lui oggi, è un segnale anche questo...
la renault continuerà a correre, quindi non cambia niente.. mancherà solo briatore... possibile che la F1 possa fare sempre + schifo? è da 2 anni che continuo a dire che oramai ha toccato il fondo... ma qui sta scavando ancora di + ... troveranno il petrolio se vanno avanti così
La Renault si è scusata e ha dichiarato che pagherà le spese per le investigazioni fatte dalla Fia...
è stata una manovra per cacciare briatore.....non avevano prove certe, parola contro parola.....piquet guidava e piquet si è andato a schiantare contro un muro....voi direte la telemetria......e coulthard quando ha frenato a spa sotto il diluvio facendosi tamponare da schumy...doveva essere radiato pure lui e hakkinen????...............ormai nn sanno + cosa inventarsi.....lo show deve essere in pista e non nei tribunali sportivi.....
Difficile a questo punto non credere che tutta la vicensa sia una semplice vendetta di Mosley nei confronti di Briatore. E a questo punto, vista la ferocia e la voglia di vendetta del presidente della Fia nei confronti di Ron Dennis (cacciato a suo tempo per una vicenda più o meno simile a quelle del caso Renault) e Flavio Briatore, viene anche più facile credere alle insistenti voci dai box che volevano proprio i due ex team principal di Renault e McLaren come gli organizzatori del festino a luci rosse costato la presidentza a Max Mosley. Insomma, per usare un sottile eufemismo, un vero schifo, nel quale la F1 precipita ancora una volta. E dal quale ormai da almeno due anni non riesce proprio a venirne fuori: ormai di questo pseudo-sport si parla più di gossip, intrallazzi e truffe. Corriere
Secondo me nel giro di pochi mesi ci siamo liberati di 3 elementi che con le loro malefatte hanno soltanto danneggiato la F1: in ordine di tempo Dennis, Mosley e Briatore. E ne sono davvero contento. La F1 stava diventando (e purtroopo lo sarà ancora ma magari un po' meno) l'unico sport in cui non c'è sportività.
F1: RADIATO BRIATORE, DUE ANNI A RENAULT ROMA - Una squalifica a vita in Formula 1 per Flavio Briatore e la minaccia di sospensione per due anni nel caso in cui la Renault commetta di nuovo infrazioni gravi. E' durissima la sentenza della Fia soprattutto nei confronti dell'ormai ex team principal della scuderia francese che aveva già deciso di lasciare la sua squadra per "salvarla" da sanzioni più pesanti. E così è effettivamente successo: Briatore non potrà più mettere piede nel Circus, il suo direttore tecnico Pat Symonds non lo potrà fare per cinque anni, ma Alonso e l'attuale sostituto di Piquet Junior, Roman Grosjean, potranno continuare a correre. Sia Fernando Alonso, (non è coinvolto nella vicenda, recita il comunicato Fia) che Piquet Junior, a cui è stata concessa l'immunità per aver collaborato con la federazione, escono indenni dalla sentenza di Parigi. Tanto è costata a Briatore e alla Renault la vicenda del falso incidente nella notte di Singapore 2008 quando Alonso approfittò della situazione in pista in regime di safety car dopo il 'botto' di Piquet Junior passando in testa alla gara per aver rifornito prima di tutti poco prima dell'uscita del compagno di team. Le prime notizie sull'incidente del figlio di Nelson Piquet erano trapelate poco dopo la fine del Gran Premio di Spa il 30 agosto scorso con la conferma da parte della Fia dell'avvio di una indagine sul caso sollevato dalla televisione brasiliana Globo riguardo al Gp di Singapore, vinto proprio dalla Renault di Alonso. MOSLEY: ABBIAMO ELIMINATO LE PERSONE RESPONSABILI "La Formula 1 esce piuttosto bene da questa vicenda, perché abbiamo dimostrato di aver eliminato le persone responsabili": questo il primo commento del presidente della Fia, Max Mosley, con i giornalisti dopo la decisione del Consiglio mondiale sul caso Piquet jr con la radiazione a vita di Flavio Briatore e la sospensione con la condizionale per due anni della scuderia Renault. "COSPIRAZIONE PER INCIDENTE", ECCO SENTENZA FIA - Il Consiglio mondiale Fia ha stabilito che "i membri del team Renault di Formula 1 Flavio Briatore, Pat Symonds e Nelson Piquet jr hanno cospirato per provocare un incidente deliberatamente al Gran Premio di Singapore 2008": questo il punto chiave della sentenza pronunciata oggi a carico del team Renault e di alcuni suoi esponenti dal Consiglio della Federazione nazionale dell'automobile a Parigi. Il Consiglio, si legge ancora, "ritiene che le infrazioni Renault nel Gran Premio di Singapore 2008 siano state di una gravità senza precedenti. La Renault non soltanto ha compromesso l'integrità dello sport ma ha anche messo in pericolo la vita degli spettatori, dei funzionari, di altri concorrenti e dello stesso Nelson Piquet jr. Il Consiglio mondiale ritiene che violazioni di questa gravità meritino una squalifica a tempo indeterminato dal campionato del mondo Fia. Tuttavia, considerate le circostanze attenuanti e in particolare i passi intrapresi dalla Renault per identificare e assegnare la responsabilità delle violazioni all'interno del suo team e condannare le persone coinvolte, il Consiglio ha deciso di sospendere la Renault fino alla fine della stagione 2011. Il Consiglio renderà attiva questa squalifica se la Renault sarà trovata colpevole di un'altra violazione del genere durante questo periodo". Quanto alle persone coinvolte, il Consiglio "dichiara che il signor Briatore, per un periodo di tempo illimitato, non dovrà partecipare ad alcun evento internazionale, campionato, coppa, trofeo o altro in qualsiasi veste" e "non concederà alcuna licenza a nessun team o altra entità che dovesse ingaggiare Briatore in qualsiasi ruolo. Dà anche istruzione a tutti i funzionari persenti agli eventi Fia di non consentire a Briatore l'accesso a nessuna area sotto la giurisdizione Fia. Inoltre, non intende rinnovare nessuna licenza a piloti associati con Briatore o ad altra entità o persona che lo siano".
E' una pagliacciata sta sentenza. Mosley voleva fare fuori Briatore. E Piquet si salva pure. Spero la sua carriera sia finita, ovunque anche al di fuori della F1. Tutto questo lo dico NON essendo un FlavioFun

Lo spero anch'io.... secondo voi se Briatore gli avesse rinnovato il contratto avrebbe fatto tutto sto casino?Non credo... dunque è complice pure lui,perchè gli stava bene causare l'incidente!!! E' in F1 solo per il padre... Cmq vedremo come finirà nel tribunale civile.... dove la FIA non ha potere (x fortuna) Briatore sarà anche antipatico ma sapeva cosa diceva.... ed è uno che non le manda a dire! Molto meglio di tanti dentro il paddock.... Infine,che sanzione è la squalifica con la condizionale?????... Ovvio che essendoci il precedente McLaren non potevano fare diversamente.
Di sicuro non con la Renault, che gli ha voltato le spalle in malomodo, senza ricordare che senza Briatore non avrebbe combinato nulla in F1
Probabilmente le ragioni sono quelle, ma la sostanza non cambia. Un gruppo automobilistico come Renault non può magiarsi la parola dopo 2 mesi, avrebbe un danno di immagine troppo grande. Quindi dubito che Briatore tornerà in Renault.
